Free FileMaker Pro 7 and 8 Articles, Example Files
and Links

In an effort to become as deeply knowledgeable about FileMaker Pro as we can, we have scoured the Internet in search of every white paper, tech brief and example file we could get our hands on. Now you don't have to! Click each link to get instant access to the article download itself and/or a Web page where the article can be found. If you find a resource that should be added to this list, let us know about it by clicking here. We will try to keep this page as up-to-date as we can.

Special, Free Article/Example File Package To Download

SPECIAL: Through special arrangement with many of these resources' authors (and the online host for the archive, pointinspace.com), our President has created a (large, currently ~10MB!) archive of most of these techniques that you can download all at once. To get the archive, click here. Resources included in this archive are indicated with a below.

Articles, Tech Briefs, Example Files

Excelisys offers several great resources. The first is the excellent FileMaker Business Tracker which is a free, open-source complete business-tracking solution that showcases many of v7's new features. Also, they've got a growing list of white papers and free examples here. One covers recursive calculations which are good for setting up multi-keys and the other is an audit log which helps you to track who changed what to what and when in your databases.

Omnipilot has an article on converting CDML to LDML (since CDML is no longer supported in FileMaker 7 or 8) here:

The following informative white papers are available on FileMaker, Inc.'s Web site:

The following tech briefs are available on another FileMaker, Inc. Web site:

FileMakerAdvisor magazine technical editor Brian Dunning wrote an extensive introductory article on v7 here:

A company called New Century Data has a few great articles on the new relational structure in v7 here:

A company called .com solutions, inc. has a great reference on AppleScript for v7 here:

There is also a FileMaker 7 version of this same info (which is more useful because you can copy and paste the AppleScript code directly from the FileMaker database fields). You'll find it here:

An intelligent man named Will Porter of Polytrope wrote a pretty comprehensive article on v7 here:

DIGFM.org has three GREAT references (especially the first article) online at:

The folks at The Moyer Group have a great article of v7 tips and tricks here:

The Nightwing Enterprises site has many, many good v7 example files here:

The New York Times reviewed v7 (favorably, but what else would you expect from the honorable David Pogue!) here:

Joel M. Bowers and Associates offer a fantastic example file for those interested in creating custom functions (it is a vast custom function library!) at:

Tami Williams of AskTami.com gave us a great example file that showcases many of v7's new features. It is part of the mega-download available above.

DuncanCreations.com has created several great example files...one is a v7 calendar solution. The others are a progress bar and a theatre seating chart.
